When to apply:
Students should apply during the spring of their senior year. The FAFSA
cannot be sent before January 1st. They must apply early to meet the
priority deadline of March 1st. Funding for various programs is limited.
We recommend that students send their FAFSA by February 14th of their
senior year to meet the March 1st priority date.
What you need:
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Be sure
the information is for the appropriate year in which the student is
applying for UA admission. Once it's complete, mail it to the federal
processor.
What to apply for:
By completing the FAFSA, the student is applying for federal grants, loans, and work-study. The student may also
be eligible for other state grants and/or scholarship funds. When listing their college choices, include the
code for The University of Arizona: 001083.
The University of Arizona Undergraduate Admission Application also acts as an application for institutional
scholarships. When a student completes this application they are automatically entered into the pool of
students who are considered for scholarships based on criteria such as grades, difficulty of high school courses
and test scores.
Now that the student has applied:
The federal processor sends out a written confirmation titled, Student Aid
Report (SAR). The student must review the report for accuracy and make
any corrections or changes according to the instructions. If the SAR is
correct, the student should keep it for their records. They do not need
to submit their SAR to The University of Arizona Office of Student
Financial Aid. We receive your FAFSA/SAR information through an
electronic process.
How the student is notified:
The Office of Student Financial Aid reviews the FAFSA/SAR electronic
information. If eligible, the student will receive Financial Aid
Notification, which lists the aid programs he/she may receive while
attending The University of Arizona. The financial aid award may include
grants, tuition awards, scholarships, loans, and work-study. The
Financial Aid
Notification is for the student to retain for their records.
What Next?:
The office of Student Financial Aid assumes that the student will accept
the grant and scholarship monies offered to them. To accept the loan
offer, they must complete the Stafford, Perkins and/or Plus loan
applications according to the instructions provided. These applications
will be sent out after receipt of the Financial Aid Notification.
Students who are offered Federal Work Study will receive a Certificate of
Eligibility in the mail.
