Architecture is an interdisciplinary field. It requires a comprehensive general education and an understanding of history and culture, physical environments and building technology combined with skill in drawing, design, math, and computer modeling. Architects concern themselves with the structure, materials, function, safety, cost and environmental impact of their buildings. The scope of their work varies considerably: an architect may design an entire community, a building complex, an individual structure, or the smallest details of interior space.

High School Preparation:

• physics; drawing and sketching; abilities in problem-solving, critical thinking, analysis, evaluation, synthesis, and communication.

Major Requirements:

• MATH: College Algebra and Trigonometry. Students may substitute Calculus if they prefer.
• Admission to the professional phase occurs at the end of the first year, and requires an exhibit of creative work, an essay, and a cumulative GPA of 3.0

• positions with government agencies, institutions, and business

A registered architect must have a degree from an accredited program and complete a three-year internship following graduation before being eligible to take the architectural registration examination.
